Miracle of Health

July 13, 2025

One of the memes I used to love said:  Men when their legs get amputated by a train: *man on a wheelchair going down the RedBull Mega Ramp πŸ˜πŸ€Ÿ*

Men when they get the common cold: *man  dying. *

This meme was made in truth. I think I have covid right now because every time I get it, my back hurts super bad. But yeahhh... missionary work is a lot harder sick.

Yesterday was Elder Rusts birthday, which I largly reaped the bennefits of because most of the members gave him cookies and he's allergic.

Miricle of the week: Waking up yesterday I felt like I got hit by a train and did nottt want to go to church, but I did anyway. I prayed for strength and didn't realize until after sacrament ended that I felt completely healthy. I felt great until I got home after church and it came back. I'm so glad I got the strength to help the ward during church.  It was fire. It was such a gradual improvement that I didn't notice until I felt completely fine, which I think was a test to see if I'd remember to be thankful for it.

I don't remember who it was, Sister Larsen I think, but someone said in their emails that if you bake snickerdoodle cookies for Koreans, they will quickly become addicted. Well we have a bunch of new members that needed visiting so we gave that a shot.  They absolutely do get addicted. It's hilarious. Apparently they don't have cookies that are soft here in Korea. What an absolute fumble on their part.

Korea has some absolute buns healthcare, not gonna lie. I have a fat ingrown toenail which has been pestering me for like 3 weeks and I've already gone to the hospital three times for it. Every time they just swab it with some Chlorhexidine and then swipe my card. I'm using personal funds btw. I'm about ready to fly my dad out here and fix this in 3 minutes flat. I got a ingrown toenail fixed the day before a 30 mile backpacking trip one time and was completely fine the whole trip.

We had a fire first lesson with someone the previous Elders had visited a few times. He wanted to meet for English and when we thought the lesson was done we stood up. He protested and said, "We haven't read any Book of Mormon yet." which was a suprise, but we sat right back down and gladly did. Super cool that this guy was so eager to read the scriptures with us.

We played basketball with our Jewish friend John this week. We don't think he's ever going to have much gospel interest but he was going to have a bunch of friends playing too, so we tried our luck and showed up. It was literally the most diverse basketball game I've ever played lol. There was a guy from Russia, Korea, Zambia, and of course the U.S. It was super fun and we were able to get 4 numbers from his friends on the court, as well as a two kids who we played with before his friends showed up. Super awesome. I was having a conversation with all of them and stopped them all mid convo to thank them all for learning my language, because all of us were speaking in English. I thought it was pretty cool that I was speaking to 3 people from different, non-english speaking countries--in English. They hadn't realized until I pointed that out and they also thought that was cool.

Following the lead of Elder Parsons (Blackfoot friend), I made a top 30 movie list, which was hype. We sent 30 minute audios to each other explaining the what and why and both of us cooked honestly. If anyone wants to make one and send it to me I will gladly tell you why you are wrong.

Spiritual Thought:

Last week on the phone I told my Mom a story of Elder Rust and I at the church. We were super tired but were about to start out language study. I knew I wouldn't stay awake so we decided to go on a walk outside and wake up a bit. Outside of the church a man ran up to us and told us he had met with missionaries 7 years ago, but had lost contact with us. He wants to meet with us again soon. The geometry of the alley that we were walking in made him seeing us at the intersection very unlikely, which I accredit to a little bit of help from Heaven.

My mom said that it was because we were, "where we were supposed to be" that we were able to meet him. We didn't take a nap when we for dang sure wanted to.

It reminded me of the story of King David and Bathsheba. Some people say that David's first mistake was that he didn't look away, that he didn't disregard the temptation. I think his first mistake was in the first verse:  "And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem."

David was supposed to be with his army going to battle, but he "tarried still at Jerusalem." David wasn't where he was supposed to be, which opened up more potential for temptation. We're still gonna be tempted, even when we're doing everything as right as we can, but if we're where we're supposed to be we'll have a much easier time making the right decisions.

κ±°λ―Έκ°€ μ§„μ§œ λ¬΄μ„œμ›Œμš” (God Bless America)

 July 6, 2025

This has been a wild week. I did a lot of stuff. It's still hot as crap out here, I have been drinking sooo much water, great heavens.

Something about the humidity must make the spiders go crazy or something because I have had several spiders fall from trees right onto me this week. They'll just sit there hanging from a web on a tree and wait for a poor child to smack face first into it on their bicycle, which is lowkey funny to watch until it's your turn. They're also in my apartment and I wake up with about two more bites every morning, so lets hope no poisonous buggers make it in. There's also a spider outside of pretty much every window of my apartment, so opening them isn't an option anymore, lest the beast usher in 10,000 years of darkness. Spiders are the greatest hinderence of the Lords work in these latter days.

Some koreans told me the other day that america had moved an F22 over here, which is lowkey fire, but they didn't really know for sure. It was funny though because they talked about it like it was a dragon legend or something, which it kind of is. Anyways, I saw ittttttttt! The legends were trueeeeee. I was about to get on a bus and it ripped over me RAHHHHHH  AMERICAAAAAAAA. what the heck is a kilometer? First time seeing an F22 in person so it was hype.

We went finding by the lake this week, and it was actually super fun (minus the spider that swung into my face) and it was super pretty outside. We try to do our finding later at night now so we don't die from the heat, and this place was so beautiful. We talked to quite a few people and got a good amount of contacts. Unfortunately we got a threat letter from the parent of one of the kids we talked to, so that was cool. Basically they told us that we were a cult and that we were destroying our souls by going to our church, to go back to our home country, and then said if we keep talkin to peoples kids they will "take action." Big talk coming from someone who didn't help pay for that F22 flying overhead. Must not know whose airspace they're in, silly guy. They also must not know that I just graduated high school and am basically the same age as their child lol. I'm sorry for trying to condemn your child to an eternal damnation by asking him if he liked ping pong. I will be more careful next time.

They then continued to send us a list of churches that they apparently approved of, and said that if we go to these ones we won't destroy our souls lol. Well you aint gonna save em either buddy. When people start bashing the chuch I've realized that I can just start asking them questions instead of saying my thoughts. Once you start asking them questions about their doctrine they realize they literally have almost no answers for anything. Where did we come from? Why did we need to come to earth? Why do we need bodies? Why are there so many churches? What happens to people who die without the gospel? What do we need to return to God? They have no clue what to say to these questions lol. Give it some thought! Let me know when you want the answers!

I went to the wilderness this week and helped a family farm. I love this place it's so fire. The greenery is very pretty, and the family I worked with is super entertaining.

Stayed up way to late on Thursday because I was trying to explain time dilation to my companion. I think he actually figured it out though.

Fourth of July:
God Bless America. By devine design God aligned my schedule to have the most fire exchange of my life on the 4th. I was with Elder McBride and Elder Ko and we had so much fun, and got a ton of work done. Elder Ko is a native and I want to be his next companion so badly, mostly because he's the most legandary person I've worked with but also because I want to get goated at Korean.

Despite him not being from America he was down to do a quick 4th celebration with us, which was us lighting up sparklers and singing God Bless the USA in a church parking lot. Elder McBride also listened to my vision for a funny video and executed it amazingly perfectly literally first try. One of the funniest videos I've taken on the mish haha. God Bless America.

We also went to a resaurant that was basically just every kind of bread you can think of. It was industrialized like crazy. They had probably 60 guys in the back making bread of every shape kind and size as fast as they could possibly go. It was dirt cheap so I bought an embarrassing amount. it was delicious.

I then broke into the church using the sparklers we bought because we didn't have a key the cold water bottles in the church fridge were not getting spared, I was coming after them one way or another.

We went hiking with our friend Johny and the sisters. Johny has a cat that lives in the woods apparently. His name is socks. When we got to the trail he started meowing and this cat ran out of the woods to great him. He then proceeded to feed it and then take pictures of us with the cat. He made a group chat and sends us updates of socks daily as well as messages from socks perspective. It was fun though, amd he had a shooting range for slingshots in the woods that we did for a while.

Elder Rust, I have discovered, was living under a rock for 19 years. He hasn't know a single song or movie I've quizzed him on, besides don't stop believing haha. He didn't know "Don't stop till you get enough" by Michael Jackson that was playing in the store, eye of the Tiger on the bus, or any Bruno Mars songs. He hasn't seen almost any of the avengers movies, interstellar, top gun... Basically I have no clue was bro was doing his whole life. Like Elder, I didn't listen to Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, or Ed Sheeran either; but I did, in fact, walk into some local business within the last two decades. I don't know how it's possible. He'd do good in a pandemic cause bro can not catch on
Love him though, he's just got some homework waiting back home.

Spiritual Thought:

While calling my Dad last week we talked a lot about King Benjamin from the Book of Mormon, and some of the things that he taught his people. I love the end of chapter 4 because after giving the people a lot of do's and don'ts he realizes that he would an eternity to explain every sin you can commit, so he basically says, "Aye y'all... don't be stupid." Which like I'm paraphrasing, but that's basically the jist of it. God has given us agency so we can choose right and wrong, but he's also given us the ability to distinguish right from wrong, and the Holy Ghost to help us do it.

When we stop asking what God would allow and start thinking what would He prefer the heavens are opened to us.
"And finally, I cannot tell you all the things whereby ye may commit sin; for there are divers ways and means, even so many that I cannot number them. But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not."- King Benjamin

Love y'all, have a good week.

Mayer and Miracles

July 29, 2025  Daggum this week went fast.

Pretty much the entire time I've been in Korea I've only heard Korean songs with the occasional Korean song that's in English. Way back when in my first area I was walking past some sketchy businesses in an alley when all of a sudden I realized the speaker to my left was playing "Who's Crying Now" by Journey, specifically at the solo. I don't think many of you know how crazy that is to me, literally one of my most favorite songs and guitar solos and bam.. right then. But it happened again this week. I was on an exchange with my zone leader Elder Monney and we were ripping through a subway station trying to get somewhere on time, and passing a business I definetely heard the bass line and guitar solo of "New Light" by John Mayer and something died inside of my while I was running away from the source. So yeah... the two American songs I've heard so far are:

1 Who's Crying Now - Journey
2 New Light - John Mayer

How.

Anyways, the exchange was absolutely fire. I went to Daejon and spent the night there. In the morning we went to a Samgyeopsar restaurant for a member appointment, then went and played board games for another apointment, and then that night played some basketball.

In between the board games and the basketball there were a few hours of finding, and not gonna lie neither of us were very motivated and everyone was rejecting us so it was kind of annoying. Elder Monney asked me when I felt the most motivated and I said after a fervent prayer, so we both took a moment and said some prayers. Before we started our finding we had held a companionship council, and Elder Monney told me that I should prioritize Jesus when finding, because a lot of missionaries (me) frequently resort to English when they're finding. He told me that that wasn't why any of us were actually in Korea, and that I would be blessed in focusing on Christ.

With that in mind after our prayer, I was feeling much better. The first guy I saw walking to the subway I started talking to, and he got on the same train as me. We talked for a very long time and I ended up talking about Jesus and bearing testimony of the Book of Mormon. He gladly took a book of mormon, and then started reading it. Before he got off I got his number so we can meet with him and talk some more about it. After he got off, I went over to an older lady who I noticed was watching the whole time and talked to her for about 10 minutes, she was very interested in English class and literally had me take her phone and sign her up, which has never happened to me before lol. While talking to the lady, there was a girl about my age across the train that watched the whole thing too. At some point every seat filled up on the train and I hit a missionary pro-gamer move (I stood up and told an old lady to sit down) which might not seem like much but lowkey koreans don't be doing that much and every time you do it every grandma on the train or bus that sees immediately loves you. At the next stop an old man got on the train and that girl I was talking about jumped up out of her seat so he could sit, to which I gave her a massive thumbs up and face of approval. She walked over to me and we talked until I had to get off, she was interested in a little gospel and English and gave me her number. After the train ride when we were back up on the street, we were waiting at a crosswalk when I looked at Elder Monney to talk to him and noticed a girl that thought I was trying to talk to her and had taken both headphones out (a miracle) and was waiting for me to talk to her. That was mediocrly awkward so I looked to my right to give her a moment to put her headphones back in and think I didn't notice, and theeen I tried talking to her. Mad smooth lowkey. Anyways, got her number too. It was absolutely crazy, getting rejected by everyone to getting four contacts in basically one train ride. We got 7 new people in that exchange. Definitely a miracle.

There's a lot of indicators that you can look to to measure your improvement in a language, and I have found that my favorite one is understanding more of Gangnem Style every time I hear it lol.

Sejong is sooo weird. This place is literally an ant hill. There's an absolutely massive government building in the center of the city and a million people will file into it at 8 in the morning, and then you won't see anybody on the street until 5. Not quite ideal for finding people but we have ways.  Also weird that every adult moved here cause this city is only 10 years old. Also the architechture is fire, there's so many sick buildings here. We even have a rip off Seoul Tower.

I played some guitar and sang at a member party last night, and I think it's funny how different some of the hymns are when you translate them into Korean. Can't quite fit the same meaning into the text haha.

This summer heat is killing me. One of my go to sentences for starting a conversation is "yo why don't yall sweat" because Koreans don't sweat. They think it's funny because I always look disgusting cause I'm literally dripping and they are dry. I don't understand it. It's so dang hot. I sweat more standing at a bus stop than I did shoveling trenches all day at work in Idaho. Humidity was definetly introduced post Garden of Eden. Dang it Eve.

My chemical burn is still making my hands look nasty so I feel bad shaking people's hands lol.

We met with a man named λ―Ό for the first time this week. That was honestly the best first lesson I've ever had with someone, you can tell when someone is super prepared for the gospel. He's come to church two weeks in a row now, and he's been to every ward activity we've invited him to, including family night last night. He bore a testimony last night, and I didn't understand a most of it, but I understood the end when he said, "I have been to many churches over the years and stopped. But I am going to put my best efforts into this church because something is different." I looked at my comp and we shared a silent fist pump of celebration. He also took us out to get food Saturday night, and it was gas.

Spiritual thought:

Prayer is crazy. You have the creator of the Universe on speed dial. I saw several more miricles through prayer that I didn't mention this week, take the time to say more meaningful prayers this week and I know you will be blessed.

"If we “ask not amiss,” there are no limits to when, where, or about what we should pray. According to the revelations, we are to “pray always.” We are to pray, Amulek said, for “those who are around you,” with the belief that the “fervent prayer of a righteous [people] availeth much.” Our prayers ought to be vocal when we have the privacy to so offer them. If that is not practical, they should be carried as silent utterances in our heart. We sing that prayers are “motion[s] of a hidden fire,” always to be offered, according to the Savior Himself, to God the Eternal Father in the name of His Only Begotten Son." - Elder Holland

I took this advice this week and said my prayers out loud when I could. Man it changed a lot. Give it a try.

Speaking of which, thank you all for your prayers. I have been feeling very blessed.

Love y'all

Elder Lust

June 22, 2025

Transfers went pretty smooth not gonna lie, I missed my stop by one so I only had to haul all of my luggage for about a 15 minute walk instead of an entire afternoon. It chose to rain again just like last time though. My new companions name is Elder Rust, which is unfortunate because Koreans try to say his name with the english pronunciation every time we meet and it is completely undistinguishable from Lust. Incredibly unfortunate name lol. The korean pronunciation isn't much different actually. 러슀트 for those of you who read.

Suwon will be missed, that ward was so fire. Elder Kost was a great trainer, my finding has improved sooo much because of him. I actually feel like I can do some missionary work now, which is pretty important. Still not great at it but as long as it's improving nah mean

I'm mad poor again, as always, but it's because I had to pay my debts to Elder Kost for keeping me alive when I had no money. So I was dreading this move until I showed up to this new house. It was like parting the veil to the next life. The house I'm in now was a 4 man last transfer but is now a 2 man because there wasn't enough work for 4 elders, so it's pretty big. But most importantly and lovely above all else is that 4 elders decided to leave all of their food, comprising mostly of gluten. Which is important because Elder Rust is allergic to gluten so it's all for meeee.

I genuinely don't know how the elders afforded all this stuff, they have fruit upon fruit, meat upon meat, and granola bars galor. It's like my mom went shopping again. I've had to eat the same dirt cheap meal for months so it's nice to actually be able to cook up a variety now. Hopefully it lasts me till the next payment haha.

White washing is such a weird experience. Usually it's our job to introduce people to the church but yesterday our teaching friend literally introduced us to everyone when we got to the church. We have no clue whats going on, but we've made a lottt of phone calls. I hate calling people by the way, Koreans start yappin on the phone sometimes. I wonder how many times I've laughed in completely unexcusably innapropriate moments because I had no clue what they just said.

We had a lesson with the sisters last night because they have a man they're teaching that they wanted to refer to us. The guy is jewish and I'm pretty sure he met with us just to bash. I've never heard some of his opinions before and it's absolutely wild to me that you can only believe in the Old Testament. That's like making huckleberry pancakes and settling for just the pancake. I don't know how you can read any of the scriptures without the context of Jesus Christ, but every time I showed him a verse, such as isaiah 53, or the verse about the man pierced for his friends, he would just tell me that the translations are wrong and that the Hebrew version doesn't say that. He told all of us that God wants everyone to learn Hebrew because that's the only way to truth. His idea of God is so different from what I believe, he believes that God started Judeism by showing hundreds of thousands at mount Sainai so faith isn't necessary, and that we need to know Hebrew because that's where the truth is. I believe that faith is the most important step to knowing God, and that God has declared that, "every man shall hear the fulness of the gospel in his own tongue, and in his own language." Super interesting perspectives that I've never really heard, but he was super nice and very profesional so it wasn't actually a bash I want to clarify.

Played baseball with a bunch of Koreans and had the most fun of my entire mission so far.

Unfortunately, despite the miraculous amount of food, the elders before us were absolute slobs. We cleaned this place almost the entire first day here. I think this place has had a posterity of hoarding elders for ages because the amount of stuff here was wild. I understand why they might leave their jacket here, or maybe a nice pair of shoes, but I cleaned up used razors, tons of used floss, pictures of peoples families, nasty mystery rags, and probably 29 tubes of toothpaste... it was disgusting. Also keep in mind this isn't the states where you have a conveniently massive trash bag you put everything in. The trash bags here aren't even a gallon and they all have to be sorted. I honestly think they must have to dedicate an entire elementary grade to teaching the kids how to sort the trash cause some places have like 10 different bins. Oh how I miss the 50 gallon trash cans on every street and corner.

My last full day with Elder Kost we went to Starfield (a massive mall) because one of our friends wanted to meet up there. We went to a nike store and Kost was talking with our friend when I noticed out of the corner of my eye that one of the employees was inching closer and closer to me while pretending to brush this shoe off of any dust. She was looking directly at me non stop though so she wasnt acting the "just doing my job" thing very well. I looked at her and started to say hello and before I even finished she exploded with energy and was like, "Are you Christian?!!?!! I am Christian too! Look my ring! It says God loves me." It was hilarious and I got her number and reffered her to the Sisters, she was actually super fun to talk to and was straight up crazy ready for the gospel haha. Crazy how God is throwing us into random shoe stores like that. Those sisters better not fumble this bag.

Spiritual Thought:

I have listened to a lot of President Nelson talks recently (shoutout to Aunt Sherry) and it's been so cool to see with hindsight that Prophets really do see around corners. It's so exciting to me that the things that prophets have prophesied have always and will always come to pass. There's so many amazing things that will happen in the coming days and I know that following our prophet and the promptings of the spirit will always prepare us well. Their messages are always messages of hope and joy, even though many bad things will happen, because that's what the gospel provides even in rough times.
